As winter’s chill settled in, my family and I sought warmth, comfort, and a touch of rustic charm at The Old Forge Cottage in Ross-on-Wye. Nestled in a picturesque setting, this quaint cottage promised a cosy escape for our family getaway. Join me as I share our delightful experience in this charming abode.

Amenities That Captivated Us:
  • Ground Floor Haven: The cottage’s ground floor welcomed us with a fully equipped country kitchen, a lounge adorned with a crackling log burner, and a dining room boasting its own cocktail bar – setting the stage for memorable family gatherings.
  • Comfortable Living: The living room was a haven of relaxation, featuring two large sofas, a log burner adding a touch of warmth, an array of adult and children’s books and games, a smart TV, and complimentary unlimited wifi access. It quickly became the heart of our evenings, where stories were shared and laughter echoed.
  • Family & Pet-Friendly Spaces: The Old Forge Cottage thoughtfully accommodated our entire family, including our furry companions. With two dogs in tow, the ample indoor and outdoor space allowed them to frolic freely, though besides bathroom breaks, we weren’t able to fully make the most of it due to snowy and rainy weather. Dog bowls, treats, and other thoughtful additions awaited, making it a truly pet-friendly haven.
  • Well-Equipped Kitchen: The fully equipped kitchen proved to be a culinary haven (especially given my sister is a chef, so she made us some hearty dinners), featuring a hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, and freezer. It was a joy to prepare meals in a space that seamlessly combined functionality with rustic charm.

Bedrooms and Charm:

  • Upstairs Comfort: Ascending to the first floor, we discovered three generously appointed bedrooms. The master bedroom exuded warmth with its king-sized bed, original oak beams, Victorian fireplace, and stripped wooden floor. The second bedroom offered breathtaking views of the neighbouring farmland, while the twin room showcased Victorian charm with newly refurbished touches.

Exploring the Surroundings:
  • Winter Strolls in Ross-on-Wye: Despite the chilly December weather and intermittent rain, we ventured into the nearby town of Ross-on-Wye for invigorating walks. The town proved to be a charming hot spot, complete with pharmacies, shops, and parks.
  • Scenic Circular Walk at Cefn Ila: One of the highlights of our stay was a day spent on a Circular Walk at Cefn Ila. Despite the mud-covered trails, the beauty of the natural surroundings and the crisp winter air made it a memorable outdoor adventure.
Conclusion

Our winter stay at The Old Forge Cottage was nothing short of enchanting. From the well-appointed interiors to the thoughtful amenities that catered to both family and furry friends, every detail contributed to a memorable experience. If you seek a haven where warmth, comfort, and family togetherness converge, The Old Forge Cottage in Ross-on-Wye is a charming escape waiting to be discovered.
